TAPACHULA, Chiapas (AP) — At least 10 Cuban migrants died and 17 others were seriously injured after a freight truck they were riding in crashed on a highway in southern Mexico near the border with Guatemala. The National Immigration Institute said all of the dead Cuban migrants were women, and one of them was under 18. The Institute said the driver of the vehicle had apparently been speeding and lost control of the truck, which was carrying 27 migrants at the time. The driver fled the scene. The Chiapas state civil defense office said the crash happened Sunday on a highway near the town of Pijijiapan. Photos showed a truck with an open cargo box tipped on its side, and the victims on the side of the highway. An employee of the state prosecutor’s office said the migrants had been hitching rides on passing vehicles. Mexican authorities generally prohibit migrants without proper documents from riding buses, so those without the money to hire smugglers often walk along the side of highw...

A few spotty showers moved through Gillespie and Mason Counties, but the rest of us stayed dry to start the month of October.Tonight any showers in the Hill Country will dry up and clouds will thin out a bit overnight as lows drop into the low 70s.Monday should be a sunnier and hotter day with highs bouncing back into the mid 90s. We'll carry a low (10%) shower or storm chance late in the day, but most of us won't see a thing. CHARLOTTE, N.C. — In a game the Vikings absolutely had to win on Sunday afternoon, star receiver Justin Jefferson put the team on his back.He finished with six catches for 85 yards and a pair of touchdowns for the Vikings in a 21-13 victory over the Carolina Panthers. That included an exclamation point from Jefferson during which he channeled his inner Randy Moss to help the Vikings create the separation they so desperately needed. After hauling in a jump-ball pass in the end zone, Jefferson slowly lowered a flat palm to the turf, letting the world know that cornerback D’Shawn Jamison was too small to cover him.Minnesota Vikings wide receiver Justin Jefferson catches a touchdown pass against the Carolina Panthers during the second half of an NFL football game Sunday, Oct. 1, 2023, in Charlotte, N.C. Heroes and Zeros from Broncos’ win over Bears: Nik Bonitto gets opportunity and delivers for defense

Published Sat, 22 Feb 2025 07:58:09 GMT

Here are the heroes and zeros from the Broncos’ 31-28 win over the Chicago Bears at Soldier Field on Sunday afternoon.HeroesNik Bonitto: The Broncos’ second-year outside linebacker got the start over Randy Gregory and delivered. Denver trailed 28-21 in the fourth quarter when Bonitto burst into the backfield and jarred the ball loose from Bears quarterback Justin Fields, which outside linebacker Jonathon Cooper scooped up and ran 35 yards for the game-tying touchdown with 6:55 left. Bonitto had four tackles (two for loss) and 2 ½ sacks. The Oklahoma product has tremendous speed off the edge, and it was evident Sunday. His only flaw was getting his ankles snatched by Fields before completing a 2-yard touchdown pass to take a 28-7 with 4:11 left in the third quarter. But let’s be real, defending Fields in open space is like guarding Kyrie Irving one-on-one.Jaleel McLaughlin: The Broncos might have found a gem in the undrafted rookie running back. McLaughlin was a spark plu...
